Fire station 23 will soon get a $6 million makeover. The Alameda County Redevelopment Agency will soon be constructing a new state-of-the-art fire station at Meekland Avenue to replace the old and now undersized Fire station 23 located on Grove Way.

To get this underway, the Redevelopment Agency will be utilizing two adjacent lots which are currently occupied by two bank owned properties. Each property is half-acre in size. The Agency has already acquired the first property for $200,000 and is in the negotiation stage of acquiring the second property for the same price.

The Alameda County Fire Department Station 23 covers the unincorporated area of Cherryland and the southernmost parts of San Lorenzo.

It is expected that the design process for the new fire station will take about 18 months once the acquisition of the bank owned property is completed.

This is what the current Fire station 23 on 109 Grove Way looks like.

Fire station 23

It currently has one engine company and three firefighters. Imagine this fire station being relocated to an acre size lot! Here's hoping negotiations with the bank for the acquisition of the second property will be quick and painless!
