This quote hangs on the wall at the Children's Museum of Wilmington. The museum is a great place for young and old alike, encouraging learning through play. When I took my granddaughters last week I wasn't sure who had more fun, them or me.
As such things will do, this got me thinking about how little play I have in my life. There are so many things to accomplish in a day. Play rarely makes the list. I've been better about it lately, but for many years I was all work and no play.
I love real estate. It has afforded me opportunities that I'm sure would never have even been a blip on my radar screen had I not discovered this great way to make a living. Most of the time, it doesn't even feel like work.
But it can be all encompassing. Sometimes because I let it be, and sometimes because that's just the way it is. You know what I'm talking about, we've all had those transactions that almost suck the life out of you. No matter how hard you try to control them, they just take over. Thankfully, at least for me, they are few and far between.
And then there are those times when business is so good you can't stop working! I'm old school -- make hay while the sun shines! So sometimes I work 7 days a week, 6am to 9pm. Whew! Doesn't seem that bad when I'm doing it, but when I write it -- WOW! What the he#$ is wrong with me? What does my lack of play say about what kind of person I am?
Have you found yourself in this position? Have you forgotten to play? When was the last time you did something playful? I don't mean took time off -- I mean played! Have you lost touch with your inner child? The one that just wants to chuck it all and go run through a sprinkler?
I highly suggest you find that child and let him/her out!! Go ride a roller coaster, blow bubbles in the backyard, pitch a tent and sleep outside with the kids. Just do something for the sheer fun of it. You may discover something new about yourself.
Give yourself the gift of play -- you've earned it, you deserve it!
