Choosing a Real Estate Agent

Buying a home requires making many important financial decisions, understanding complex issues and completing a lot of paperwork. Make sure you are careful when choosing a Real Estate Agent.  It helps to have an expert in your corner when undertaking such a large purchase. Our real estate agents can guide you through the process, and they also can get you access to Arizona and Phoenix home listings before they hit the general market.   Make sure when choosing a real estate agent in Arizona that you get along with the person and they seem to really listen to your needs.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing a real estate agent in Arizona and Phoenix:

  • Look for a full-time agent who has experience completing transactions similar to yours.
  • Interview a few agents: Are they familiar with the area you are interested in?
  • Ask how much time the agent will have for you, and if they have a licensed assistant.
  • Ask about their credentials and education: A good agent will continually strive to improve and gain knowledge of the latest real estate trends.
  • Does the agent return your calls promptly? Time is money when attempting to buy a home.
  • Ask for a list of homes they've sold or a list of references.
  • Choose an agent who listens attentively to your needs and concerns. Pick an agent with whom you feel comfortable.

This is great but most sellers go with the first agent they call.  They do not ask for a sample of their listings to see what skills they have arranging pictures and a description.  Many sellers fall for the canned speach, "I can sell your house for more money, and quicker than any agent................."

That is why it is important to interview a number of agents.

Years ago when I offered my house FSBO, I had a number of agents knock on my door.  Most of them were from the same broker, and came with the same 30 second speech.  There was one agent that was different.  He offered me help and materials with no strings attached.  I did not list with him, but when I became a real estate agent, I joined the same broker.

First impressions are lasting, and they should be original. It could be an indication of the service you will receive after the contract is signed.
