Facebook has practically replaced the yellow pages and is infiltrating its way into every aspects of our lives and businesses. One of the more recent additions to Facebook is it's "Fan Pages or Like Pages"


The purpose of this post is to describe the differences between a Regular "Facebook Page" and a "Fan/like Page" and how you can benefit from them as an agent. When Facebook originally got popular each person had a profile page where they could display all of their personal and professional information.

On a profile page an individual could share information with their friends through notes, status updates, links, pictures, etc but there was no way to seperats personal from professional. The problem with this is that not all of your personal friends want to hear about your business and your business contacts don't necessarily want to hear about your weekend out drinking.

Now, with the recent development of "Fan/Like" pages you can create a page for your business that is attached to your personal page. You can ask your friends or anyone you have an email address for to become "fans or Like" your page. By creating a fan page you can display all of your real estate information about your listings, market updates, and other real estate related items with out feeling like you are violating the personal aspect of Facebook

By asking people to "Like" your page you can know who your captive audience is for your real estate business. Since the page is attached to your personal page, your friends who have not "liked" your page can still see your business information if they desire, but only your personal"friends" can see what you do personally and not your "fans." Once you have a total of 25 people "liking"you page you can create a custom URL for that page.  If they don't chose to "like" your page then you don't have to worry about them being annoyed with your Just listed or Just Sold posts.

Eric, it's free. Making the fan page is easy; the challenge is in promoting & growing it. But, once you get people liking it, as Leslie mentioned, they're a captive audience, and one with great retention -- they're less likely to "un-like" you than they are to unsubscribe from an e-mail newsletter, for instance. But, they have to interact with your updates or visit your page semi-regularly, or Facebook won't make your fan page's updates as prominent to them.
