The Staten Island Advance wrote an article on a gift given to Staten Island from a Canadian artest as a commemorative to the victims of 9-11.   I was curious and after reading the article I drove to the Old Bermuda Inn which now has the mosaic gift on display.  The Old Bermuda Inn is a catering hall about 200 years old filled with antiques, on Staten Island with deep historical roots.  Located in Bloomingdale off Arthur Kill Road.   The gift is called "The Great Law of Peace."

What is the Great Law of Peace?

The Great Law is the founding constitution of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy. It is an oral tradition, codified in a series of wampum belts now held by the Onondaga Nation. It defines the functions of the Grand Council and how the native nations can resolve disputes between themselves and maintain peace.

A parsonage (a house provided by the church for its pastor)  of St. Luke’s Church built early 1800's, a restored Victorian masterpiece is now a Bed and Breakfast also sits on the grounds of the Old Bermuda Inn.

The gift is situated in the gazebo garden on the grounds of the Old Bermuda Inn.  Here are a few pictures I took.

Wow I'm a little late to the party but what a great blog post Connie!  I'm going over to the Old Bermuda Inn to check this out.  I'm fascinated with all things Native American.  I'm actually finishing up a blog post on the Lenape burial ground at Burial Ridge in Conference house park.
