I mentioned in one of my posts yesterday that I have been doing a lot of reading lately. I should say that I have been doing a lot of skimming of books that I have already read, as well as notes from trainings that I have attended. It was kind of like doing the last minute studying in College. I wasn't looking for someting profound, just some small thing that I may be missing. I found a statement by Dirk Zeller, in his Dummies book, it goes like this:
"When it comes to competition in residential real estate, success-minded individuals find the field close to wide open. If you want to conduct your own competitive analysis, the best place to start is by looking in your own mirror. I've always felt that I was my only competition. No one was preventing me from achieving my listing, sales, or income goals but me."
This is the theme that I have touched on before. But it seems to be a constant thread in Society today, find someone to blame. You don't even have to look to find it, just turn on the news, open a news paper, or listen to the radio. No one is willing to stand up and say it is my responsibility, I am the one that has to answer for it. I don't know how many times I have caught myself thinking that it's the economic times that we are living in.
It is the easiest thing to do. The truth is that the only way to dig ourselves out as a country, world, community, or as Realtors is to realize that no one is going to do it for us. We have to just take up the slack and keep on working at it. It is the hard way, but it is also the time and again proven way. I do believe like the song from the musical Annie, "The sun will come out tomorrow." It is all in what we choose to do with it!
