Today, at sunset, (Sept. 8, 2010) is the first day of Rosh Hashanah -- the Hebrew New Year 5771. The Jewish new year is also called the "Feast of Trumpets."
In Leviticus 23:24 ~~ "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first [day] of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation."
A common blessing is "L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu!" which means "May you be inscribed (in the Book of Life) for a good year!"
And what better way to "REJOICE" then to stroll down memory lane with the Allan Sherman classic: Harvey & Sheila (a satire of the song"Hava Naglia." Hava naglia means: Let us rejoice. )
And for my next number, I'd like to introduce to the CUFI Cornerstone Singers, and their rendition of "Hava Naglia . . . Texas Style"
For the traditionalist . . . a beautiful rendition
From London, Andre Rieu at Royal Albert Hall
From Iran . . . Mellat Museum In Tehran . . . a simple song from a very brave man
For those that now me, I LOVE BOLLYWOOD Who would have thunk -- Bollywood dancing to Hava Naglia
Eastern European classsic
From Russian . . . with love (and rock 'n roll)
