K-9 Pool Party for charity in Suffern, NY! - Sunday, September 12th

Just as the dog days of summer end, and the town gets ready to close up their pool for the season, it all goes to the dogs for one last fling.

This year's Annual Town of Ramapo dog swim is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Spook Rock pool from 12:00 noon until 3:30 PM.  The Spook Rock Pool is located on Spook Rock Road in Suffern, New York.

Though I've never attended one of these K-9 pool parties, it's become a super popular family event  since it was first launched, 7 years ago.   Dogs of all breeds from throughout Rockland County and the entire metropolitan area participate.

We all know the benefits of swimming.  Because we're more buoyant in water, there's less stress on the body, making it a safe place for excersize.  The benefits of swimming in the water and excersizing in the water are just as great for the dogs as for humans.  It does wonders for their flexibility, strength, and stamina and besides it's a barrel of fun.

To participate, canines are required to have proof of vaccination (current rabies tag on collar or rabies certificate will suffice).  There'll be a local veterinarian Dr. Lawrence Ness, on site donating his services and volunteers from the Hudson Valley Humane Society to supervise the action, with raffles and prizes..  The Humane Society will issue free pet ID tags to all in attendance.

The cost of admission for Ramapo residents and their dogs is$5, and for non-residents $10, with all proceeds going to the Hudson Valley Humane Society.

So bring your dogs and come join the fun.

This sounds like great fun!  I don't think we have anything like it here.  But you've inspired me to look!  Thanks!

Tish, Though I'm living in  Suffern for over 30 years, this is the first I've heard of it.  I got inspired about checking it out when another activerainer posted about a K-9 event (though it wasn't a pool party, but a costume parade).

I also thought this sounded like a neat event. A fun time to get to know other dog owners.

Cal - it seems to be a much looked forward to event for the dog owners in the area.  I've got appointments for all of Sunday afternoon.  I'm hoping to be able to at least catch the tail end of it.

This looks like so much fun!!  It must be hilarious to watch.  The only thing I would worry about is maybe dogs getting into a fight.

Debra- part of the rules are that when out of the water, they have to be leashed.  That should minimize disturbances.
