Chris Griffith put out a challenge a week or so ago asking those interested to enter in the Carnival of Ice Cream - The Real Scoop...being a connoisseur of good ice cream I could not resist saying a resounding YES!  I've been hemming and hawing all week trying to decide which is my favorite ice cream shop.  It's a HARD decision and I could not limit it down to one.  So I will blog on several:sugarbowl

My VERY favorite of all Ice Cream Shops is Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor on 5th Avenue and Scottsdale Road in Downtown Scottsdale...The Sugar Bowl has been around since the 1950's and definitely takes one back to that time and era. My husband and I got stuck on this place when we lived there and we visited it often.  The banana splits were (and probably still are) to die for...my husband liked the root beer floats.

maggie mooAnother fun place that we found in Kansas City, KS while visiting friends several years ago was Maggie Moo's.  Maggie Moo'swas one of the first of the ‘mix-in' ice cream parlors.  There were several around KS and we vowed to open a franchise someday.  We have not seen one in years; our friends in KS tell us that theirs had gone under. In googling Maggie Moo just now I find that there is one ‘coming soon' to NV!  Cold Stones is a good 2nd choice since we don't have Maggie Moo's here.  We have one within walking distance of our house and enjoy the treat.

Good ol' Baskin Robbins is some good ice cream too.  We have a drive-through one here in Las Vegas and if I'm ever in that area I always drive through and get one - single scoop, chocolate chip on a sugar cone!ice cream

The ice cream I miss the most is the one from Thrifty or Sav-on Drug Stores...a nickel would buy you a single scoop of a variety of choices.  We use to pull the kids in their little red wagon to the one on the corner near us for a weekly treat (and sometimes in between)...what a deal 5 ice cream cones for a quarter!

If you have favorite ice cream spot I urge you to enter the contest. The deadline is August 27.

Ok, I fly into PHX all the time and I'm pretty sure I've been here!  It was a few years ago, I'll have to show the pictures to the family to make sure.

Thanx for participating Mary.  Next time I'm out that way we should all go!

Geeze I hope Marc Blasi doesn't get jealous if I have ice cream with Brian Brady!

Mary - five cents for a scoop of ice cream.  I think those days are gone.

I go visit my folks when they winter in Mesa about once a year but probably too far from Scottsdale to talk them in to going there for ice cream.  Sounds like a great place though.

Mary,I consider myself a connoisseur of ice cream. I won't just eat any old ice cream and homemade ice cream is by far the very best of the best. I remember as a girl I use to have to take my turn cranking the ice cream with aching arms and the salt pouring into the side layered over the ice....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm good. One year we made peppermint ice cream out of a chopped up peppermint stick.

I now only eat Haggin Daus (may be misspelled). But homemade is the very best! I really should enter this contest!

Love the logo for Maggie Moo's! I also liked that you talked about the ice cream you miss the most. For me it is Isaly's (I think that is how it was spelled). Growing up I loved getting an orange pinneapple cone from them. Alas they are no longer around (well, the conastoga wagons have stopped running LOL)

Sounds delicious, Mary. Isn't this fun to learn where we can get the best ice-cream and banana splits.

Mary~ I grew up in Scottsdale and the Sugar Bowl was a family tradition!!! My dad loved the Hot fudge malt sundae with the whoppers in it..and well I loved everything. When I go home to visit I will even take my own kids there...Thanks for bringing a smile to my face...without all the calories, LOL!!!
