Driving to work today I had noticed all the activity at the hour I was driving of kids walking and school buses picking up and dropping off at school children. I wanted to share that as residents or people driving through Avon Lake to be especially careful of our kids at this hour. I am sure this applies just as much across the country.
We have so much technology on us with cell phones, PDAs, lap tops on and GPS systems that we can easily be distracted to one small one crossing a street. The school years starting and I think kids are just not as careful as they can be and at the same time we should not expect them to be experts at street crossing safety.
Street crossing guards need just as much attention from us. They are trying to keep our kids just as safe but for some reason or another there are drivers that ignore their efforts to stop traffic. Fortunately I have not seen this locally but have heard from street guards in past conversation that they have had drivers feel they can beat them to the corner, which is scary.
School buses. When the flashing light goes on slow down and STOP. And don't take off till those lights are off and the bus is moving again. I don't think I need to elaborate but outside safety it is the law to stop for school buses. On the other end buses will stop at RR tracks to look both ways before crossing the tracks, please respect what they are doing.
We are all in a hurry to get somewhere but the kids come first. If you feel you are at a school hour look at your route. Perhaps there is a different direction you can take to avoid school zones and the like. So again please careful with our kids
