12 Comments on Wordless Wednesday...
You and I must be thinking the same today. I posted a photo of the same thing this morning!
How funny! I'll have to go check it out. Happy Wednesday!
Kim,
That's pretty funny and true. I try to avoid the water cooler at all costs. Hate gossip.
I'm right with you on that, Faina! Fortunately, I don't speak Chicken very well, so I have no idea what they're clucking about. :)
They're talking about how good that expensive past was... ;-)
They're probably talking about you and that crazy hairdo you had at this mornings feeding.
Susan--the funny thing is that chickens LOVE pasta! They go crazy for it. Especially the imported kind ;-)
Ross--LOL! That is an extremely good possibility. They seldom see me at my best :)
Old hens, indeed. Maybe they are planning a baby shower? Love this!
LOL Jennifer! In this case, I'm the one who would qualify as an old hen. The gang pictured above is actually a batch of unexected babies that hatched about 3 months ago! In another month, they're going to be integrated with the "grown-ups". I guess that makes them teenagers, which means they're probably planning a party. I'll have to keep an eye on them..you know how those hen parties can get a little crazy ;)
Kim, you must be getting a lot of requests for fresh eggs with all the recalls on the mid-west farms in trouble?
What a great picture....unexpected huh? Lucky you! Do you get eggs from them yet?
Steve--we have a few folks who buy eggs from us on a weekly basis, but we're a very small backyard set-up. Requests haven't gone up, but there are lots of people who keep chickens around here, so fresh eggs are fairly easy to come by for those who wish to cross over from the "dark side" ;)
Sharon--totally unexpected. We had one hen who always flew out of the pen and roamed around the backyard. One day she disappeared...we figured a fox, a fisher cat, or hawk might have gotten her...but there were no feathers or signs of a struggle anywhere. A few days later, my husband heard a little rustling under some bushes in the yard and took a peek. Tucked under the roots in a little cave was our missing hen sitting on what we thought was a clutch of about 6 or 7 eggs.
3 weeks later Mama came out with her little brood behind her...all 12 of them!! No eggs from the babies yet...but hopefully sometime in early October, they'll start earning their keep. :)
