So, here I am, trying to get ready to go on vacation and what happens?
Hurricane Earl is heading straight for our beach house on the Outer Banks of NC and we're heading off on vacation out of the country. Normally, I am glued to the weather news and to www.hurricanetrack.com. We happened to "meet" Mark Sudduth of www.hurricanetrack.com online last year during a particularly bad nor'easter (Nor'Ida). He ended up going to our beach house and setting up his equipment in order to stream live video from our cottage. We have been fans ever since.
Mark is on the Outer Banks now, with an ABC Nightline producer, and they will be streaming live video as they go through the hurricane there. Some of the live feed will be streamed from the "weather cam" on the deck of our house.
And we won't be here to see it! Aarrggh!!! Tomorrow night when the storm hits, we'll be in Panama City, Panama -- and instead of lounging at the spa or dropping a few quarters in the slot machines in one of the Casinos near our hotel, we will probably end up eagerly searching for a cybercafe where we can log on and watch the hurricane live and in living color, with our cottage in a starring role.
Nervewracking? A little. We've been through worse than this, so we aren't too worried, but Fiona and Gaston are right behind! Still, storms can be unpredictable so you never want to be too cavalier about it.
Fun, nonetheless? Oh, yeah.
So, forgive me for not having a real estate related post. Between packing, making sure everything is taken care of during my absence and Hurricane Earl, I am a little distracted today!

I'm headed to Denver to watch my grandchildren so my son and his wife can go to...you guessed it the Outer Banks. Guess I'm getting the better end of this swap. Have fun on your vacation and at least you can watch the video to see how the storm is progressing from Panama :-)
Hurricaines and vacations! Sounds like a lot of fun :)! Have a good time on your vacation and try not to worry about your famous beach house. I bet they will send you the video if you ask :)! Panama sounds great!
Hopefully the hurricanes will blow themselves out. I hear Panama City is fabulous. Have a great time, and try not to worry about something you cannot control.
I'll be praying that it misses the Outer Banks so you can enjoy your Panama vacation! The good news is that you will be able to know how your cottage is faring due to its staring role, while many others may not!
Cindy: Denver is so beautiful; hope you enjoy the trip. After a couple of days, it will be beautiful on the OBX.
Brenda: Thanks! I imagine they will be able to give me a video, too.
Jane: Our sentiments exactly...we'll be sipping on tropical drinks and not worrying about it!
Shelley: Thanks, Shelley. About all we can do is pray - and you are right, we at least will know its fate.
Susan, you might worry about it a little bit - until the drinks kick in...LOL.
Heather: That's the plan! In fact, given that I need to get up by 4 a.m. tomorrow, I'm thinking about pulling an all-nighter, having a drink on the plane in the morning and then sleeping all the way down. LOL I do not do early mornings particularly well.
Enjoy your vacation. We'll keep an eye on the condo for you from here :-)
Oh wow - well, be careful, enjoy your vacation, and I hope everything's where you left it when you get home!
Stacey-Ann: Thanks! And have a great trip to Atlanta.
Mike: Thanks! We will send up some prayers and keep our fingers crossed - for all in the path of the storm, too.
It's hard not to worry, but since there's little you can do, enjoy your vacation! I hope you don't spend too much time hunting down a cybercafe...you have exploring, beaching and, apparently, breakfast drinking to do. Have a wonderful trip...we can't wait to hear all about it! :)
Been thinking about you the last 24 hours, my friend. What a summer you've had, topped off by THIS??? Heavens. But I hate to say it... HOW FREAKIN' COOL that your place will the center of attention!!!!
Love your attitude... go have some fun. Isn't Panama one of the few places in the Caribbean that doesn't get hurricanes, ever?
Susan, the weather is something we can not control...have fun and enjoy your vacation!
Hi Susan, It is interesting that you might be able to check in on your home from vacation via the news. I sincerely hope you have a wonderful time.
I feel for you Susan. We'll all be watching. Hopefully it will turn out to sea a bit more. fingers crossed.
Interesting story. Prefer not to be famous this way. I don't think all blogs need to be about real estate.
Looks like the storm wasn't so bad after all. Hope you are enjoying Panama.
Thanks, Everyone, for the comments! I am in a little cyber cafe in Bocas del Toro, Panama...the storm turned out not to be a big deal and our trip continues to be absolutely wonderful. It is all good!
