I like most parents tonight in Santa Clarita attended our school's "Back to School" night at Stevenson Ranch Elementary. This night provides parents a small snaphot of what lies ahead in terms of their children's education and who will be educating them and how. I wanted to take this opportunity to spotlight a couple of new changes this year to our school, namely our new principal and assistant principal. Meet our new Principal Candace Fleece who replaced Mrs Von Buelow this school year.
Candace was the Assistant Principal for our school last year. Mrs Fleece began her career as a NSD substitute teacher and was hired to teach at Meadows Elementary where she taught from Kindergarten on up for two years. She then transferred to Stevenson Ranch to teach in fourth grade and later became an assistant principal. She was later promoted to principal going through a process that involved over 30 people in various positions selecting her for this role. She was promoted to principal effectively July 1st, 2007.
The school also has a new Assistant Principal Michael Lee and I wanted to personally welcome Michael to our school as well. I met both Candace and Michael as they greeted parents at the entrance of the school tonight. I already know Candace from the previous school years and it was great seeing her again, but it was the first time I had the opportunity to meet Michael. I didn't get a chance to talk very long with either one of these school leaders as they were busy welcoming parents into the school.
Every year I am reminded as to why our schools are so good in the Santa Clarita Valley. Attendance by parents is always high and the teachers and their curriculum is always geared towards high, but reasonable expectations. I was impressed with the new teachers and their backgrounds and experience. Congratulations both Candace and Michael and to all the staff and volunteers not mentioned that make Stevenson Ranch the great school that it is. We appreciate all you do.
