Arriving at my new construction inspection I was met by the supervisor on the front porch.  We had met before on the pre-drywall inspection, so we recognized each other as I approached.

Since it was a hard-hat zone, he was happy to see my hard hat on my head.  He said, "I brought you a hard hat, but I see you don't need mine."

"I also brought you a new pair."

Kidding, I told him I didn't need a new pair.

"No, buddy, you need a new pair of these."  And he handed me a pair of booties.

"I just take my shoes off, isn't that enough?"

"Not in my house.  Until I turn this house over to the buyers, everyone wears these!"  He put his on too.

That was rather impressive to me!  No builder had ever done that before.  So, since a Scout is clean, I put on my booties and got started! And they fit!  Sometimes those things are too small for my feet.  Not today!

So, that's my booty.  Oh, did you think I meant...?  Well, no, I'm pretty sure you don't want to go there.

Hi Jay, in a custom built home I can understand the builders position.  It is rare however.

Sally - to see my pedicure I'd have to take my Costco black socks off!  That's an awful lot of effort!

Herb - I am glad that you are glad!

James - hooked another one?

Laurie - well, my dear, your wish is my command...

My HVAC firm's servicemen wear them.  I'm sure my residents are impressed with this.  I saw them UP CLOSE when I took the EPA lead renovator certification course in June...not gonna be a part of my wardrobe!!

Jay, wearing booties is pretty standard for new construction. I keep them in my car...

Michael - I have them too!  But I have never been asked by a construction supervisor to wear them, and he gave me a brand new pair!

I do wear these from time to time in houses - just wore some last week.  The plumbers I work with usually wear them.  For me, however, given my shoes, the booties ironically cause more of slipping and tripping hazard given my weak ankles.  Nonetheless, always important to be respectful of a customer's floors and home.  I also always avoid walking over their grass.

Oh, and LOL, I recognize this carpet.

I'm really glad you didn't mean 'something else'. I was a little concerned reading the title. LOL !!!

I also carry a few pairs of booties in my vehicle, as well as my 'inside shoes'. No, I have never had a builder ask this either. Hopefully, it's a sign the times are changing for the better. A homebuilder that cares about his product. Awesome concept!!!

Shake Shake Shake Your Booty.  Oh Jay you disappointed me this morning....but glad to hear of a construction supervisor who cares about the condition of a new home.

Jay - It is always refreshing to see builders who truly take pride in and respect their work and are determined to keep it "New" for the customer.  The interesting part is subcontractors pick up on that concern, and generally do a better/neater job.

Debbie - I took my shoes off and wore these over my socks.  They barely fit, so they would never fit over my shoes.  They did slip a little!  Recognize the carpet, huh?  I thought it was nice stuff.  This was in the family room, with hardwoods everywhere else and a nice shag in the basement.

Yeah, Jeff, but the title made you peek!  It is an awesome concept, isn't it!

Sorry, Cindy, but really, I doubt you were disappointed!  Well, this guy cares!

John - you are right, the attitude of the super does translate.  Some places are a mess for the pre-drywall inspection and some are recently cleaned up, just for me!  This final inspection was really ready for us.

Jay, how long before they come up with designer booties----you know like Britney Spears? with real estate advertizing etc?

My US Keds are green and red and have MacGregor on the sides!  I paid a premium for the family connection!  Kind of like that?

The hard hat the builder offered me had the company name on it.  Maybe the booties will next!

Damon - the builders always have the shoes off rule on new construction.  But these booties would not have fit over my shoes, so they would have to come off anyway!

Charlie - I musk!  I musk!

Yes, it's a nice carpet.  But, shag in the basement?  What decade is this?  Shag would never fly here in NY area.

Well, Debbie, it's not that orange and blue and green shag of the 60's, with one high strand per square inch.  This stuff was really lush and thick.  Maybe they don't call it shag, but its length reminded me of the shag of old!  I thought it was very comfortable to walk on, with black, brown and maroon speckles throughout an off white.  Seems it would go with any decor.

I thought you'd be impressed to see my booties!  Often they are so small I can't wear them - size 14 feet...

I just carry my own boties.  Don't always use them but sometimes it is appropriate. Especially when I don't want to be the one blamed for getting the carpet dirty.  Like, when the bug guy or realtor tracks dirt all over the house. And yes, it has happened.

Nice.  I keep a cheap, comfortable pair of slip-on shoes in my tool bag for inside the house.  Concrete basement floors get damn cold in the winter here.
