Chinese Drywall Are Killing Babies: When Is Our Government Going To Learn?

So here I am, bringing up Internet Explorer and what is the first news title I see?: Army Probe Mysterious Baby Death At Fort Bragg. I'm reading it and it made me sick!

10 babies all under the age of 8 months, have died. Tests were performed in the rooms where these children died and all the tests came back positive for Chinese Drywall.

The Army decided to investigate when 2 baby cousins died within 3 months of each other living in the same house.

One death was attributed to SIDS, seven were ruled undetermined by military pathologists and two remain under investigation.

This overseas building material emits high levels of sulfur gases. This I never knew and it just makes me sick!

Who is in charge of monitoring overseas production of any materials? Does anyone go to China and conduct inspections?

This is not the first time China has produced faulty and dangerous products. Remember the lead levels a few years back?

Why does this type of history keep repeating itself? I want answers!

This is nothing short of a tragedy. Until we start producing our own materials at reasonable costs, imports, without the quality control and safety measures we implore, will continue to flood our markets.

There is a very simple answer MONEY! China has been sending us crap, and we deserve it because we buy the crap. Where are the American jobs? In China. Where are they spending the money for GREEN projects? China. IT IS TIME FOR AMERICANS TO WAKE UP and decide where they want to spend their money. Government needs to get out of the way of business, stop with the constant Tax and regulate and let Americans get back to work.

We manufactured lighting fixtures in Miami and was run out of business by imports. We could not compete with the wages, taxes and silly government requirements such as occupancy licenses. You hire another employee, you have to pay a higher fee, you have to pay workers comp at a high rate for some one putting screws in a bag.

Sorry for the rant!

Hi Craig, Absolutely! It has to stop!

Hi Kathy, Rant away! It's the only way to get things done! I'm all too familiar with workers comp premium rates. That in of itself can put business out of business and we import away!

Chinese Drywall is awful stuff, and is a plague throughout the South.

As a Detroiter, I too am sick of the "hey, it is cheaper" mentality when it comes to products from China.

I understand where you all are coming from and i absolutely agree, but I'm wondering if this is more than just " Oops, sorry we didn't know that highly toxic compounds/chemicals in everyday household items would cause deadly side effects".  Even with the "Cost Effective" mentality there is no other excuse for this other than malicious intent.

Jackie:  Have a neighbor that travels to China frequently on business. Evidently, there are different level of products they produce.  We get the good ones.  Can you believe that?  Wonder what the drywall they keep in China is like?

It is pretty sickening and I have to say, I'm glad my husband stands by his quality standards and wont cut corners.

You have to be kidding??? How is it that we recall childrens toys that are made in China due to the possible lead in the paint yet we plaster our walls with drywall from there?? And to think of how many buyers are purchasing homes unknowingly, only to try and sell years later when they'll have to disclose the issue should this become a public awareness concern. As well it should!

Jackie, every time I read about this stuff, it makes me crazy!  We should all stop buying their junk at Target!  That might get their attention.

Jackie I read this a few days ago and my heart sank.   All of those families who have lost precious babies due to poor manufacturing and lack of oversight by our government regarding the products brought into the US.  And to boot these are military families who are making even more sacrifices to support our countries freedom.  Beyond sad.

Hey Jackie, this is very sad to hear. as long as Money gives people the illusion of power, they will continue to do what they can to gain the "green paper" for themselves.  That is all it is, paper with green ink! it is amazing how people will treat each other and cut corners to save and gain money, but in reality its just a huge waste... waste of time, causes of unnecessary stresses and wastes of innocent lives.
