Wanna Waste Some Time?

Over 4.5 Million hours of wasted time in 2009!

That's how much time was wasted on one NINE mile stretch of road  in Harris County last year.  It was the most congested road in all of Texas for 2009.

Traffic Jam, Houston TX

In fact, 5 out of 10 and 7 out of the top 15 most congested roadways were right here in the Houston Metroplex.

The estmated cost of these delays is astronomical!  For instance the number one road segment that resulted in over 4.5 Million hours of lost time is estimated to have cost over $98 Million!

So why am I blogging about this?  Because with real estate, it's all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, right?  Travel time is an imporatant aspect to quality of life so here are the top 5 areas to avoid around Houston if you can!

(Information from recent TXDOT report)
1.  I-45 from Beltway 8 to I-610           4,507,059 Hours lost     (ranked number 1 in Texas for most congested!)

2.  US-59 From I-610W to SH 288        2,422,287 Hours lost  (ranked number 2)

3. I-45 From I-10 To I-610 South         2,858,589 Hours lost (ranked number 6)

4. I-45 From I-610 North to I-10           1,061,140 Hours Lost (ranked number 7)

5. US 59 From I-10 to SH 288               973,729  Hours Lost (ranked number 10)

Annual delay cost of these five roads in Houston?  Over $257 MILLION!  11.8 MILLION hours lost!

JUST FYI, 4 of the other roads were in Dallas/Tarrant county and the other road in the top 10 was in Austin near the Capitol! So Stop yer bellyaching Dallas!

Being from the Houston area, I know how bad traffic can be. I also know it's Texans country...change that crummy profile pic!

Amazing.  I drove from downtown Houston to Conroe for 16 years.  Many days it was stop and go on the toll roads.

Yeah, mostly stop at rush hour(s) now Richard. Terrible traffic!

Joan, it seems that city planning is unable to "project" growth and by the time they have finished redoing a major road, it's time to redo it for more traffic!

Jeremy, Texans are a baby franchise still.  I root for the home team but have been a Cowboys fan since the late 70s before the Texans were in Houston (if you'll remember there was a team called the Dallas Texans that later became the KC Chiefs).  I still pull for Tennessee for that matter too as a remnant of Love Ya Blue days!

Yes sir,  they looked very good.  Of course, this was what the Texas have been building up for years...to beat Peyton and the Colts.  They are in trouble if Arian Foster, Matt Shaub or Andre Johnson get hurt though...not a very deep team.
