Ever notice how REALTORS are a lot like cats? It's true. Think about it. Think about any cat you've watched grow up and then "do the math" in your head with some poor REALTOR who's probably reading this wondering if it's them you're comparing to the cat.
Let's break it down:
When a cat is a kitten, she is bouncing off the walls with enthusiasm--all the time...she is optimistic even in the face of older cats who occasionally slap her to remind her that she is just a silly kitten who knows nothing of the world she seems to believe she can succeed in.
When a young REALTOR hits the scene, wet license in hand, bright eyes, big smile, eager to learn and pound the beat until she makes that sale, lists that house...her enthusiasm is boundless, even when some of the more "seasoned" REALTORS try to cut her down to size by reminding her that she is just a beginner in a world she seems to believe she can succeed in.
Then kitty grows and learns and enters the prime of her life. Now experienced and honed in the skills that once eluded her, she no longer bounces off walls with the enthusiasm of youth, but rather executes a more refined skillset--one that allows her to move easily through her world and accomplish her objectives with confidence. She has become a powerful hunter, a master of escape and a loyal friend.
Young REALTOR grows and learns and enters the prime of her career. Now experienced and honed in the skills that once eluded her, she is no longer prison to a seemingly fruitless enthusiasm, but now is seeing that time and attitude investment returned to her. She now moves easily through her world with a valuable skill set, accomplishing her objectives with confidence. She has become a powerful buyer's agent, a master of her own life and a loyal partner.
The once vibrant kitty cat has grown old now, and seldom gets out anymore. She sleeps most of the day and makes trips to the food dish and over to the water bowl from time to time. Occasionally, on a good day, you might see her out with a few of the young cats in the yard playing around, but for the most part, she doesn't want to be bothered and just wants to rest in the shade. (and she will let you know she doesn't want to be bothered too) This old gal was a RAINMAKER in her day and all the other cats know and respect it, as well they should. She started as a young kitty--green and completely clueless. Then, with time and courage, she grew and learned and eventually became one of the coolest cats around...and THAT's what all the other cats think of when they think of her. The RAINMAKER.
The once vibrant REALTOR has grown old now, and seldom does much showing anymore. She still comes into the office some, mostly to stay connected socially and to tell the younger REALTORS how easy they have it compared to what she went through way back when (Remember when the MLS books were BOOKS and were printed every 2 weeks??? Pre-computers!) But for the most part, even though she still pays her dues in order to stay on board, she doesn't want to be bothered with responsibility--she's put in her time. (and she will tell you she doesn't want to be bothered too) This old gal was a RAINMAKER in her day and all the other REALTORS know and respect it, as well they should. She started as a young REALTOR--green and clueless. Then, with time and courage, she grew and learned and eventually became one of the most respected REALTORS around...and THAT'S what all the other REALTORS think of when they think of her. The RAINMAKER.
And that's how REALTORS are a lot like cats. Wouldn't you agree? RAINMAKERS both...indeed. : )

Hopefully our real estate life is longer than a cat life. I'm 16 years in my real estate career and I still identify with the kitten, and most identify with the prime time. I can't imagine getting old and tired of this career. Fun post
