Ever want to have your horse at home with you (or at least not far away)? It can be tough. On TV, you see places with hunderds of acres and you dream of one day being able to have something like that. That way, on cold, wintery mornings, you can just roll out of bed, throw on something warm and go out and feed them. Well, I'm here to tell you that you don't need hundreds of acres to do the same thing.

If the property is zoned agricultural, just about any number of acres is ok. If the property isn't zoned agriculture (or one of the various zoning names that means the same thing), you can probably have a horse on 5 acres. Some townships will let you have one on less acreage, but 5 acres is a good rule of thumb. If you have room enough to move your horse or horses between at least 2 pastures, they won't mind so much if you're late feeding them since there should be enough grass to keep them happy. Of course, if you fall in love with a property and you're not sure, you can always call the township and find out (or call me and I'll help you).

I moved here about 5 years ago and fell in love with the county. There's lots of rural areas where you can see all kinds of critters and/or farm animals. There's also places you can go to see some history (like our covered bridges and old farmsteads or some buildings that were used as mills, general stores, etc). You can be entertained in a variety of ways depending on what's going on at the Soverign Center. Drive the country roads and you'll probably see a horse drawn buggy. Want to get to somewhere fast? You've got those roads, too. This county is definitely the place where you can make most of your dreams come true.
