Real Estate Takes Brass Balls
I have been selling real estate for over 10 years. I have seen the good times in real estate and the best of times in real estate, but I have seen so many real estate agents over the last 2 years just give up all together. I think they gave up because they saw and focused on the worst of times, you see I never said at the beginning of my blog worst, just good and best of times .I remember my father told me when I was growing up that you have got to have brass balls to be in sales. I said dad what do you mean? He said in all sales you must make conscious effort to be aggressive as you go after your prospects on a daily basis and you must have the mind set and attitude that you already are successful and that you're going to reach your sales goals even before you hit them. In the movie Glengarry Glen Ross, actor Alec Baldwin performed his best performance in this scene below. As you watch the video, take a look at his attitude and his mind set, he knows that he can sale and knows money is coming to him, then take a look at the other agents.
I just want to say to the new agents and to the old agents don't give up if times are ruff in your business. You know the old saying "the sweeky nut gets the oil". Make some noise, ask a successful agents in your office for help, or ask your broker. Take a look at your systems that you using, keep what's working and throw away what's not working. Get away from negative agents, form a network of successful agents that you know. The most important thing you can do is protect your mindset and know that you are an eagle, and when you know that you are eagle, it's hard to peck with the pigeon. Being real estate agent is the best thing in the world and definitely in this economy. Lets say you left real estate and went to get a job doing something you sure as hell didn't want to do. This by far is my biggest motivation when I'm selling; I will never have anybody dictate how much money I can make, or tell me what I need to be doing from 9-5. There are some incredible real estate systems and agent out there that will help you. It's time for agents to get back to old fashion selling but use technology as an instrument to increase sales production.
You can do it, step out of your comfort zone, pick up the phone, open your mouth and sell yourself to everybody and know without a shadow of a doubt that you are going to make it. Give it your best shot, don't settle for mediocrity. Your other option is getting to the back of the line at a job fair, and if you do you will here Alec Baldwin say "yeah I used to be a salesman".
