A Wordpress Plugin To Import Your ActiveRain Posts

I was so glad to find this post by Jeff Turner and see they had developed a plugin to feed your posts from Active Rain to my wordpress blog. My blog has been my website for several years, so I wanted to be able to add value to it while I posted to Active Rain.

I also found a free unqip program for the .gz file. It is 7zip. You can google unzip programs for .gz files and come up with several, but they may not be free. This one worked for me since I am on Windows 7.

Once you upload the archive posts, you will have to go back periodically and get the new posts you have made. This is not a hard process so I don' mind doing this. I am just happy to have this solution.

You will save the archive posts in your Wordpress blog as "drafts". That way, you can decide on an individual basis which posts you actually want on your Wordpress blog. You can also add tags at that time and if you have Thesis theme, like I do, you can do all your seo for it. Not sure it will work since it is not original,  but it is worth the extra time and effort. Any chance for extra seo is good.

Hope you enjoy this like I did! Happy posting.

A few weeks ago, ActiveRain released a new feature that allowed members to export an archive of their individual blog posts. In the announcement, Brad said, "It's open nature will allow for the development of third-party import tools."

So, I sent the link to my partner, Steve Zehngut, and we put "create a Wordpress Plugin to import ActiveRain posts" on our to do list. Today we tested it and are ready to release it into the wild. You should be aware that the ActiveRain export does not include categories, tags or comments. So, our plugin imports the posts and gives them a category of "Active Rain" in your Wordpress blog. This will make them easy to find. If you're importing your posts into an existing blog, I would import them as draft. The video below will illustrate.
