Hurricane "Earl" watch is in affect for New York City and surounding areas. In the event of a hurricane, the City will activate its Emergency Operations Center on a 24-hour basis.

If your apartment has a terrace or balcony, make sure nothing can become airbourne during a high wind condition. This includes awnings, umbrellas, boxes, plants or trees, outdoor furniture, toys etc. At the same time, make sure the drains on your terrace are free from debris that can create a flooding condition.

Before, during or after a hurricane, residents can call 311 for information.

Enjoy the Labor Day weekend in spite of the weather!

I guess a huricane is not the best Labor Day weekend ever. Hope you stay safe.

Mitchell getting things off the balcony is sound advice.  The items if left out could really hurt someone if picked up by the wind.

The skyline does look like Earl is in the area.

Have a great weekend

Jennifer, Thanks, I took the picture earlier from Luke Constantino's car coming back from Queens. We said goodbye and paid our respects to Laurie Manny and her family.

Oh my gosh! LOOK at all those buildings! (I know.... I'm supposed to be focusing on the hurricane, but we have those in Riverside... NOT the buildings!) WOW! Great picture!

Board up and be safe!

Hi Joni, Yes there are a lot of buildings, the best shots are from across the river in Queens and Brooklyn. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Hi Steve, Thanks, I think the hurricane is a dud. It was dark and cloudy earlier but I just had the weather report on and tomorrow is supposed to be dry and windy and sunny in the 70's. The hurricane is heading north toward New England but is supposed to turn east and it's been weakened to a tropical storm. Have a Great labor Day weekend!

Sounds like you might be spared the full brunt.  I think it's on its way though.  Something like 50 mph winds?

I have a friend in Florida that has experienced a number of hurricanes.  She educated me about the importance of securing flower pots, and lawn furniture, which can turn into missiles with high winds.  Hopefully, Earl will lose some of his energy, and spare the East Coast of considerable damage.

Mitchell,

Labor Day and hurricanes seem to go together. Not sure why that is. :)

Mitchell the only issue that was present in the yard were a few cushions that landed in the fountain- the chairs didn't even overturn. We got lucky!
