Linking between blogs is a great way to reference other material that relates to a blog.  Links can be used both in the actual blog of the comments of a blog.  You can link to anything published on the web, that could be on Active Rain or any other page with a URL.

How To Link

The mechanics of linking are simple.

  • First navigate to the page you want to link too.  Cut & paste the URL so it is on your clip board.
  • Highlight the text on the page you want to use as the "linking text".  To Highlight that means take your cursor, go over the words while you are holding the mouse right click button down. Release the "right click" button and you will see your words highlighted.
  • Next click on the "chain link" in the bar at the top of the box. You will see a link and a broken link (side by side).  Use the link. NOTE: if you have "pop up protection" on you computer, you will need to hold down the control key as you are clicking the link button. That will over-ride the pop-up.
  • A new dialogue box will appear.  It looks like this:
  • dialogue box

In this box you will put the URL in the box where it say Link URL

click insert.

The box will close.  When it does you should see the text on your page with a hyper link.

(the text you highlighted will be underlined)

If it is you did it right.  If not, you need to start over.

Good luck!

Ginger, Why yes, I looked into my Kristal Ball and  noticed you were having a bit of a dilemma.  As for making it "bigger?" I suggest stronger specs my dear.  I have the same problem.

The twenty-somethings that build this site, obviously don't identify! Are you listening SEATTLE? :)

I'm another one of those older "visually-challenged" members. I just ordered my first pair of full-time glasses (YIKES!) We used to be able to insert larger text in our blogs, but not anymore. Maybe we should ask Matt for a Large Print Version of AR?

KK - great stuff, as usual. Thanks!

KK,

Thanks for the explanation...now can you do the same for uploading pictures.

I tried and just can't get it to work. I was trying to upload a picture that was on a floppy. Do I have to load the picture up to my computer first?

Thanks for all your help.

Eileen, floppies?  Wow, I haven't used them in years -- still have a box or two of unused ones.  Do you remember the old floppies?

Kristal, great idea to post this, I think it will be a great help to a lot of people.

Eileen, you got me smiling with the floppies, but you know what, if it works keep on using them.

GREAT POST Kristal !  I link things all the time, but get in a hurry and have a bad habit of just posting the URL instead of a more descriptive text phrase and then linking that phrase.  Some URL links look "scary" with all those strange characters and might even scare someone off from clicking.

Again...thanks for reminding me!
