Brentsville Church - Where America's Foundation Was Laid

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Executives
Those of us who were reared in small towns across the country have probably seen churches similar to the Brentsville Union Church in Brentsville.

Built in 1874 this church has seen many a parson standing at the door greeting parishioners as they left "Sunday Meeting" to return to their farms or small town homes.

They weren't the only Americans who would be appalled at what now passes for "freedom of speech" and the decline of respect for family values that permeate our society.

People of many ethnic, national and religious backgrounds were the men and women who worked tirelessly to build a strong foundation. It is a heritage we would be wise not to squander.

Karen,

They may look similar in architecture, but those old churches each have their own special characteristics. You're right, many Americans are trying to forget, or rewrite, our heritage and history. New isn't always better.

Rich  You are so right, but they all teach the same story - a strong, moral (not necessarily religious) fabric is the basis of our American strength

That is very pretty craftsmanship on the bell tower.  But no bell anymore!

I should add that I have been by that church many times.

Karen, thank you for that great thought this morning and the beautiful picture of the church.  It seems in some cases that free speech is not protected for those from a Judeo-Christian viewpoint.  I have seen that many times in education.   A school system banning a Social Studies teacher from having a copy of the Declaration of Independence on a bulletin board display of the Revolutionary War?  Why?  Because it says, Creator.  Ridiculous.

Karen - There are certain landmarks across America, where you know they are the footprints of our history.  The one in your picture is one of them!

Karen, Alexander de Tocqueville said that what he had observed in his travels in America was just what you say - what was going on in the churches.

Karen,

Thanks for the reminder & chance to remember our heritage.  Last year I took photo of the church in the small PA community I grew up in & posted it on Facebook. I received comments from several others who also grew up there.  Moral:  churches were the center/heart of the community, what binds people together.  Thanks.
