It's the end of Summer and still feels super hot to me. I don't know about you but I tend to get a little more stressed when I'm hot. And I have also noticed that people in general have less patience and have a higher level of stress during those times.
Now, pair that with driving every weekend looking for a home in this current housing market. If you're a buyer and have been searching for that perfect home, most likely you're dealing with all the "fun" that comes with foreclosures and short sales.
The housing market will be the housing market and there's nothing you can do to make it change right now. It wil take time...a long time. Getting stressed and angry wont' help, just grow more grey hair. But you can change your perspective and the way you handle the situation. It's a choice...YOUR choice, and I love the thought of being able to choose and totally change how we look at things.
Besides realizing that a home buyer couldn't ask for a more perfect time to buy (if you really think about it, YOU'RE PRIVILEDGED if you're in the position of buying a home right now), I have a few suggestions that may help you...
1. Begin with the end in mind ~ Imagine where you will be and how it will look like when you finally move to that house. How will it be better than where you are now? How will it look? How will you feel? Make sure you write it down and have that goal right in front of you. Focusing on the future when anxiety grabs the best of you will certainly help.
2. Get educated ~ With so many home buyer classes and so much information everywhere you turn to, make sure you get educated on the process. If you are confused, ask questions...ask lots of questions until you get a good grasp of what will be happening.
3. Trust in the process ~ Will it ever work out? Will it ever end? Will we ever move??? There's a lot to think about and a lot to do. Remember to take one step at a time, a day at a time, and the end will start unfolding right in front of you. Make sure to hire a team that you trust and have confidence. They'll be there to help you all the way. That's our job as real estate and mortgage professionals.
4. Be flexible ~ In this market place, anything can happen between an accepted offer and the closing of your transaction. Remember, there's no perfect world so be ready for some "adjustments" to happen. A good real estate team will work hard on getting the loose ends tied up to have a happy ending. Sometimes even for the better! If you do anteciapate changes, you won't get dissapointed and angry.
The key of success in buying a home is no different the all the key to success in anything: plan, organize, take a step at a time and stay focused.
When you find that special place and move in you'll realize that it was all worth it and not that bad after all!
Maria, I am stressed that buyers are waiting on the sidelines too long. I have some that are very emotional and can't jump into the buying mode very quick. good post.
