FINALLY -- Twitter is Worth It
A few years ago I was really ripping on Twitter and with good reason. I went to the first Brand Camp Symposium in Southfield, MI and Twitter had just come out. It was the IN thing. A lot of people who weren't making a dime were all bragging about Twitter and how they figured it out. They had all nominated themselves geniuses -- Oh boy......
The tool set itself had no instructions. And the stuff people were tweeting about were mainly nonsensical gibble gobble. I fooled around with it but gave up on it and pursued other interests that paid.
RECENTLY, THATS CHANGED......
A lot has happend since then -- the term, MICROBLOGGING - has really taken off in many new exciting ways. This type of blogging will only accept a post of up to 140 characters. That being said there is not a whole lot you can say about yourself or your product.
There are two things you should know.
1. www.TinyURL.Com -- You know that your URL can be long, especially if you work in real estate. You may be sitting on a Keller Williams server or a Remax website and have a really long URL. This is going to take up most of your 140 characters. Just type your URL into the form on this website and watch as it shrinks it down to about 8 characters. This is important to save you space.
** Now you can have more room to tweet.
2. HASH TAGS - A hash tag allows people to follow you online. It has a pound sign in front of it so it looks like this..... #FOLLOW A hash tag can be just about anything that other people are tweeting on. You simply add this to the end of one of your tweets. Then your tweet will pop up on other tweets which will bring you more traffic to your twitter page. Your messages go viral and you start to get more momentum.
This is how people start to get REAL massive followers.
When you do this type of work you want to get your messages - retweeted and posted on other peoples posts. This is somewhat of an artform.
This is something that can boost your brand awareness. Twitter should be part of your active SEO.
Happy Tweeting !
Ted,
Thanks for the valuable information. I have Twitter account but have not utilized it very much.
I understand that they now offer Schmaps and Schnaps to their service. I signed up to use it free for some promotion. My understanding is that you can send a Tweet from your listing location and it will generate a map for those who follow you.
