10 FREE Things You Can Do (or not do) To Help Your House Sell

Everyone sees the HGTV and A&E shows about selling your house and staging it to sell.  Obviously doing some home repairs and minor renovations as well as staging your home work.  However, not every home owner has the cash to paint, replace fixtures, buy new flooring or pay for a stager.  That doesn't mean that there aren't some things you can do to improve your home and help it sell.

Here is a list of simple, easy and FREE things you can do to improve your chances of selling your home.

1.  Clear out the clutter - have a garage sale and donate to goodwill all the things cluttering up your home.

2.  Dust ceiling fans, corners and baseboards.

3.  Mow your grass.

4.  Trim your hedges.

5.  Be flexible on showing times.

6.  Leave your house during showings.

7.  Do not cook fish or liver in your home while your house is on the market.

8.  Remove all your ceramic clown figurines from your house.

9.  Secure your pit bull, Rottweiler, or doberman during showings.

10.  Don't answer the door in your underwear.

There are other things you can do for your home that cost very little, we will leave those for another time.  Have a great Labor Day!

How about listening to your real estate professional about where to price the house? Then you can leave all those to the next owner.  As is vs presentable.

Jenna, some of these ideas are funny! I'd add to tip #7 cabbage, collard greens - in fact, don't cook anything in your house while you are trying to sell it. Thanks for commenting on my blog, by the way.

Jeanna,

Great list to provide to our sellers.  Funny how a motivated seller will listen to our advice.

Jeff and Heather - Thank you!

Kevin - Thanks...I always find advice is easier to give with a little humor :-)

Heath - That is so true!  Dropping the price is always a viable option!

Jackie - Yep! Those are some great additions! ;-)  It was a great post with some great advice (especially since I have been suffering from writer's block lately!

Kristin - perhaps we should do that at a future office meeting! =)
