Step 1: Looking at your credit report

I just posted information on how to get a free peak at your credit report...spurring me to write a series on how to fix up your credit.  After you read the previous post, note the following:

If you have recently been denied credit, you should receive a denial letter which includes instructions to get a free copy of your credit report.

If you have already received a free credit report this year or if you haven't been denied for a loan, you can contact the three credit reporting agencies and request a new credit report for a small fee.  Here are the three credit reporting agencies and how to contact them:
