As an avid runner, I attended a recent 5k running race for charity that took place on a Thursday evening. I thought “here we are in Florida on a Thursday night at 7pm with temperatures hovering around the 100 degree mark”. The race was well organized and took place at the local Jewish community center. There were over 400 runners who braved the heat to compete with nature. All in all the race was a huge success. There was over $8,000 dollars raised. After the race, there was a post race party that consisted of awards, pizza, and sodas. I was surprised to see one of my mortgage lenders, a competing Realtor, and a home inspector at the post race party. I certainly didn’t see them running the race! I got a chance to interact with each one of them on a more personal level as we stood in our sweat soaked shirts and shorts. It just goes to show that every event within the community that we attend is a networking opportunity. Whether it is your child’s ballgame, a volunteer opportunity, or a community 5k. I urge you to show up and support your local communities. Keep those networking channels open.
Critically important-you are so right, Howard. And when we get busy, we tend to drop out. Thanks for the reminder!
Nicely said, you have to view every opportunity as chance to network. All networking really is is just starting conversation with random strangers, if you can do that you are networking. I network once I go to Disneyland and the Beach and by the end of the conversation I am giving my new contacts my business card and they are giving me theirs. All it takes is some gumption, and some courage to start conversation with complete strangers. But keep in mind in our industry it depends on us meeting people/networking. Love the post!
Networking works well for finding those new clients as well as building relationships within our sphere.
Howard,
You are right. I hear from other agents in our community with kids that its impossible to interact and be a part. I find it easier at such events as kids sports, fairs etc as I am there already why not network. Its all about perspective. Oh and congrats on the race. Running is not my fave sport, so I admire those who love it.
