Clap On... Clap Off!!!

Who doesn't remember that infamous commercial - clap your hands, and the lamp will magically turn on!  Well, I found a really neat lamp the other day.  I promise, it's not a "clap on, clap off" lamp, but it does seem magical.

When the lamp is off, it looks like just any other normal, generic lamp.  However, when you turn the lamp on, magically, the image of flowers radiates through the light of the lamp shade.  I was dying to use these lamps for staging, and had the chance the other day.  I used black and white bedding with black flowers on a white background.  It was just meant to be.  With the lamp on, the bed looked stunning, and created quite the focal point in an otherwise rather dull, uninspiring room.

Of course, I'm sure you've figured out by now, that the pattern is on the inside of the lampshade and only appears once the lamp is on.

Very Cool Sally!  (I'd like to see some before and after shots of the room too.)

I really think staging a property is a very good investment!

I wonder if they got that off of QVC? We have a listing right now where the sellers have a lot of cool stuff from there.

Hi Sally,

It's only been the last 10 years that I've paid more attention to details like this. I'm glad you're discussions are about these little things that make a big difference. As you know, I almost always use a home staging professional, but I like to add my 2 cents worth of opinions and tips.  Sometimes the fixture and effects are better when the light stays off... lol.

Good reading... thanks..

Pat - I share your thoughts!

Harry - Stay tuned, my friend.  Before & Afters are coming in the very near future (this is the 30 in 30 challenge, after all...).

Rob/Jeannie - I actually bought these lamps at Home Sense.  I had to google QVC, but the site does look interesing...

Li - Thanks so much, that's very kind of you to say.

Sergio - I think it's great that you believe in home staging.  It's really the details that add the magic to a staged home.  Ha!  I hear you - sometimes it's best to have no lights on and leave things to the buyer's imagination...

Kathy - Isn't that pattern great?  Seems sort of Japanese inspired.  That $8 pear has seen many a home...

Connie - Really?  These were the first pair I've seen, but would love to add more to my collection.  Maybe more styles will make their way up here.

Roger - Hey - what are you doing on A/R?  You're supposed to be in Pittsburg!  Sorry, I don't see any old dogs - just creative souls.

Julie - Why thank you and yes, that's the plan!

Sharon - It does look great with the bedding - just working on my blog for tomorrow - I'll post the before/afters and you can see for yourself (pant, pant, blog, blog...).

Ginger - yes, the "click-on" version is definitely the way to go!  Happy hunting.

Maureen - I'll be posting the before & afters tomorrow, so stay tuned.  Thanks for being my personal cheering section - it's really appreciated!  Just wrote 5 more blogs today!

Shar - I think you may find the clap on version at the Rog Mahall haunted house, sitting just below the brass lantern!

Sally - The clap-on clap-off devices work very well.  I know some people who use them.

Marc - Really?  Huh.  I didn't think people used them any more.  From a design aesthetic, they leave a lot to be desired.  From a functional point of view, they probably make a lot of sense.  Chacun a son gout!

Howdy Sally!

The same affect/effect can be created by utilizing this nifty halogen light bulb from Phillips (available at Lowe's, but not Home Depot).  It's great for adding dimension and texture to a milk glass shade!  It comes in a blue tint or clear.   I prefer the clear......

(See, I can be useful <G>)

Sally, at Rog's Masmall he doesn't even have to clap. The lights just come on and go off on their own. :)

What neat lamps.. I wonder if stick-ons would work on the inside of a lamp?

Judi - Hmmm, interesting thought.  I'd be afraid the stick-ons would peel off with the heat of the lightbulb.  Maybe stencilling a pattern on the inside would be possible, although awkward to accomplish.  Best just to find a pair and buy some.  Hey, I hear you've joined Roger's group - it's going to be fun!
