A  Penny Saved is a Penny Earned...

Don't think you can buy anything with a penny nowadays.  Matter of fact they are considering doing away with it all together.

Oh well, the whole idea of this post was to save you a bunch of pennies.  Maybe a 1,000 or 1,500 of them.  That will pay for part of your monthly phone bill.  So a tip like this is just like making money.

On Friday evening we thought we would go and see a movie for a change.  Decisions, what should we go see?  Let's check the trailers.

Here's the trailer we watched and thought, that looks good.  George Clooney... how could we go wrong?

If you click the link above you will see that they give it almost 4 stars, 7.2 out of 10 like it.  Watch the trailer, looks good.   Guess we figured out that all the people commenting work for Clooney.

Our advice would be to save your pennies.  It won't last long at the movies, it will be available for rent very soon.  We would still say... save your money

You would be better off watching "Hangover" for the 2nd or 3rd time, you will still laugh.

Thanks for the advice Peggy & Al,  We like movies, but we usually watch them at home via Netflix during winter months.  Right now we are too busy.

Al & Peggy - A penny save is a penny earned and my favorite movie spot is the Blockbuster movie cube where movies are a $1.  Plus we get rent 1 get 1 free coupons all the time, so once in a while they're even cheaper.

Al and Peggy,

I recently read that it costs more to make a penny than its worth. Probably the same could be said for the Clooney movie. I'll wait for it to hit HBO.

What great advice.  It was awful.  I do not have a clue what it was about and none of it made sense.  The only reason to go is to gawk and Clooney.  And he produced this.  What was he thinking!

Al and Peggy I don't know what it costs to go to the movies over there, but over here it costs a whole wheel barrel full of them :)

Hi Al and Peggy - You don't expect me to keep quiet about the tax aspects, do you? :)

In my opinion, the penny saved is more than a penny earned.  If you earned a penny, you would need to pay tax at your marginal tax rate (46.41% is the highest marginal rate in Ontario in 2010 per a major accounting firm).  Thus, you would need to earn 1.86602 cents before tax.  This calculation assumes that your item is non-deductible.  I assume that your movie is a personal expense and is not deductible for business purposes.

Don't spend too much time on this Labour Day labouring about my explanation, eh?

Thanks for the advice... we were looking for a movie to watch with Alec this Weekend, but couldn't find one that interested us (that we haven't already seen)

The critics have not been kind to this movie. I, for one, will take your advice and wait for it to come out on DVD...if I plan to see it at all.

I haven't been to an actual movie theater in ten years or so, but I sure have a lot of movies in my Blockbuster queue, including The American.
