5th and 6th Grade Ski Passes in Colorado for the 2010 – 2011 Season – Available Now!

If you have lived in Colorado for some time or have older kids – this will not be new to you. But if you are relocating to Denver or just have, this is info you will not want to miss as it can potentially save you a bundle.  My wife just reminded me that this will be on our to do list today – as we have a 6th grader.  This photo here was my now 6th graders first time on skis several years ago.

If you  have a 5th or 6th grader in the state of Colorado and plan to ski or snowboard this coming winter (yes, I know technically it is still summer here in Denver with this heat!) it is time to get their ski passes.  Once  upon a time, there was just one pass for 5th & 6th graders, but a few years back it changed – so even if you have older children – this may be new to you.

Colorado Ski Country USA – 5th (Free) & 6th (Paid) Grade Passports

The first program is the one that many that have older kids will be familiar with.  It is the traditional 5th Grade Ski Pass that many are familiar with and is available here. This one is not quite ready to order yet, but will be soon.  In a nutshell – if you have a 5th grader – you can sign up for a free pass that entitles them to ski 3 free days at each of the 21 participating ski resorts.  What a deal!!!   The participating resorts are:

Arapahoe Basin, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Buttermilk, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte, Purgatory, Echo Mountain, Eldora, Howelsen Hill, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, Snowmass, Sol Vista, Steamboat, Sunlight, Telluride, Winter Park and Wolf Creek.

In the past, the pass has also arrived with coupons for other family members, but I do not know if that will happen or not this year.

Through the same program, 6th Graders can buy a pass for $99 that gives them 4 days at each resort. Yes, its not free – but still an amazing deal.  Same place for info – and registration should be available soon.

Vail Resorts 5th & 6th Grade Pass – The School Of Shred – FREE!

This is the newer program, although its not brand new – The School of Shred gives both 5th and 6th graders 4 free days on the slopes this year.  Yes – this is free for both 5th and 6th graders.

This is the pass that is available now and I would go and get it asap – as rumor has it, it could sell out this year and be lifted soon – although the site does claim that it will be sold until November 7th.  In addition to the ski pass, the School of Shred Pass also include this year 1 free lesson and rental.  Very Nice!  The resorts that are included in the School of Shred 5th and 6th grade ski pass are Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin.

The School of Shred pass is available now at REI and Colorado Ski & Golf and also these other locations.  Read that list carefully as not all locations have it.  You can also get the pass at the participating mountains I believe if you happen to be up there as well.

When going to get your 5th or 6th grade Ski Pass – Make sure you bring with you 2 things - 1) – Your child.  They will be taking their photo for the pass.  And 2) Some type of proof of their grade such as last year’s report card, birth certificate or student/school id.

So even though we may break the record high of 97 degrees today – Happy Ski Season! Perhaps I will see you in line with my daughter at REI today.

As for the rest of us?  There are tons of deals for passes going on at all of the Labor Day ski sales.  I will post more on pass options later.

Thanks for the reminders, the Colorado Ski Country 5th and 6th Grade Passport are excellent programs.

The coupons (for discounts and other family members) are no longer printed but are available online and/or sent to parents via email during the winter.

And new this year, Colorado Ski Country USA is introducing the First Class program. All 5th Graders who sign up for their free passport, and have never skied or snowboarded before, will receive a free lesson and equipment rental from one of the 21 participating resorts. The lesson is valid for beginners only, and 5th graders need to complete the application in order to participate.
