West Coast Contemporary - Before & After Staging Photos

There are quite a few West Coast contemporary homes in my area.  There seemed to be an explostion of this style of home in the 70's and 80's.  These homes aren't to everyone's liking, so it's important to make the interior as appealing as possible.

Here are some before & after shots of a recent home staged by Exit Stage Right.

The main living areas are located upstairs, and have a fairly modern look, so we chose to furnish the main living area with more modern furniture.

Although the feel of the home was fairly modern/contemporary, I still wanted add some warmth.  I chose to tell a bit of a story, using nautical touches here and there to add some interest.  Can you spot the references to the sea?

Sally I spy those star fish.  Great work and I love the furnishings that you used for this job. Barcelona chairs have always been one of my absolute favorites AND I love the black and white in the bedroom!

Kathy - Thanks so much for the feature!  The blue started with the blue & taupe striped cushions from Pottery Barn, and took off from there.

Maureen - That's a great compliment when someone says that a 'staged' home doesn't look staged - thank you so much!  I think that things like hauling in some firewood for the basket on the fireplace hearth helped make the place looked more lived-in.  Luckily, my (ex) brother in law had a nice big pile of wood, and let me borrow some!  Ah yes, those lamps...

Linda - Thanks!  I know you're refering to the design when you say it looks clean, but I can tell you that the house itself had a few cleanliness issues, but that's for another blog another day...  in fact, there will be a few follow ups on this one - stay tuned...

Ginger - Thanks for playing - I was wondering when someone would pick up on the sea/nautical theme!  Glad it was you.  I love the mid-century modern look, but I didn't want to take it all through the house, so the bedroom is more transitional.  It all seems to work, though.

Janice - Thanks!  Glad you appreciated the "nautical" touches - this was a fun one to stage.

Julie - Admittedly, this is not my favourite style of house, but it deserves to look good for a quick sale.

And there are those great lamps! I like the lamps in the guest bedroom as well! Contemporary doesn't have to be cold and crisp. It can still be warm and inviting which is what you did. Perfect!

Sally, I noticed those lamps from previous post too. They look really good with that black and white bedding. Wonderful transformation.

Hi Sally, this feels thoroughly modern and fresh, just fabulous design work! I'm coveting your chairs in the living room. AS Maureen sated it does not look staged it looks like it's just waiting for the new lucky owners to arrive and relax in this beauty.

This is one of the more dramatic stagings I've seen.  It is absolutely fabulous!  I knew those lamp shades would look great with that bedding!  The transformation is just night and day...what a difference you made!

Sally- Your staging is different and I agree with some of the others, it doesn't look staged.  Especially love the black and white in the master bedroom.  Not something you'd expect but certainly was dramatic and still fresh.

Shar - Glad you like the lamps in the other bedroom too, although I notice that the one on the left got a bit lop-sided - will have to go back and tweak it!

Anna - Ah yes, those lamps do go really well with that bedding - thanks so much for noticing.

Cathy - You are too kind - thanks so much!

Cynthia - I know, those chairs are amazing - they seem to work almost anywhere.  Wouldn't want to live with white chairs, but to stage with them is great!

Sharon - I do tend to err on the side of drama - can't help myself.  At least I held back on the Eiffel towers on this job!

Kathy - Thanks - I like "different".  I really appreciate that this house doesn't look staged.  It's a great compliment - thanks!

Love how you used the mirrors on the nightstands flanking the bed.  Very pretty look and would help shed light in a dark room.  Loved the transformation!

Lori - Thanks - those bedrooms were both at the back of the house, and were really, really dark.  I used the highest wattage I possibly could in the lamps, and yes, the mirrors will also help reflect some light.  I also think the mirrors add a touch of glam.

David - I agree, the soft blues and turquoises seemed to work.  No, that was not MY painting - I'm waiting for a certain REALTOR/Stager to write a tutorial (hint... hint...)!

Valerie - Thanks so much, that's a very nice thing to say.  I know, sometimes it doesn't take much.  I wrote the Realtor® a note to keep the lights on in the cupboard when showing the house, because the dishes look really pretty with the cupboard lights on.
