Each year on Labor Day weekend the annual Intertribal Pow Wow is held in the little Texas town of Bandera. With tribe members of many different tribs scattered over many states they come together to honor our freedom and the ones that have made America what it is today.  They honor the men and women who have served America and the ones that are in service now.

They come to honor the May 9, 1847 Treaty between the Comanche nation and the German Immigration Company.  This treaty between the Commissary General of the German Immigration Company, John O. Meusebach  on behalf of the German Colonist and the Comanche Nation and the Chiefs there of.  This treaty covered the lands between the LLano and San Saba Rivers and the German Settlers and provided protection to the Settlers by the Comanche Nation. And the Comanches would be protected by the German Settlers and to come into any town or settlement without fear.  I wish there could be room to copy the complete Treaty here but it would take up a lot of space.  This is the only Treaty with any Indian tribe that was not broken and is still celebrated each year in Fredericksburg Texas a town that was in the Treaty lands.

Here are some pictures of members of different tribes and the dress customs of each tribe listed.

What a wonderful event!  It's been many years since I have been to a Pow Wow.  It was an indoor event however.  I can imagine having it outdoors would jave been amazing.

Myrl, This is a big and interesting event each year and it has other events that are held at the same time in Bandera so it brings a lot of people to the area.

Georgina,  It is great that these different tribes come together for this event each year and there are other locations in Texas and other states that have POW WOWs to celebrate different events.

Howdy and evening to you Don

Don,
attending a Pow Wow is such an enlighting experience. Being a blood brother to the Cheyenne Nation for many many many moons. I always attend Pow Wows in what ever area of the Country I'm living in. I'm working on having some Poe Wows held at our local Living History  Fort at No.4 here in Charlestown.

Have a good one

Dale, Thanks for your comments and it was good to hear from you again.  I did enjoy the Pow Wow at Bandera even though I a do not have any Indian family by blood I am married to a Cherokee. I hope that you get your Pow Wow going up there.
