14 Comments on A Bronze Statue of Audie Murphy by Sculptor Jimilu Mason
Great minds must think alike - I just posted about the not-yet-constructed Texas Capitol Vietnam War Monument to honor our most forgotten soldiers! I also have a friend who visited Audie Murphy's grave in Arlington Sunday. Great minds, right? I love the emotion in Ms. Mason's sculpture - thanks for sharing!
He was one of my heros as I was growing up. I read his biography and have seen the movie several times. Did you know that his widow had recently passed away? She was very active at the VA hospital in LA for many years, well up into her 80s.
Shelley, yes great minds think alike...:)
Rebecca, I so remember learning about Audie Murphy and watching his movies. I was unaware of the statue. It is incredible.
Rebecca - what a nice tribute to the artist and Audie Murphy. Have heard the name but did not know any of the history. I hope you shared this with the artist. Jimilu is a very talented sculptor. The details are impressive.
Jeff

Believe it or not I have never even heard of Audie Murphy. I guess I need a little history lesson!!
MaryKay, I learned a lot more about Audie Murphy since writing this post.
Jeff, good suggestion I will ask the gallery to forward this post on to Jimilu.
Roger, I vaguely remember his movies, and enjoyed reading about all his decorations.
Tony, his accomplishments truly are astonishing.
Bill, go to some of the links and get a history lesson :)
Thank you for spreading the word about Audie and sharing your pix. Read his book To Hell and Back, the movie didn't show enough of his amazing feats due to the fact they thought no one would believe he actually did what he did. Also check out www.audiemurphy.com for a lot of good info and meeting other Audie fans. Check out the Audie Murphy/Amnerican Cotton Museum in Greenville,Tx. They have a wonderful statue of Audie in front and they celebrate Audie Murphy Days every June. A great group of people at the museum.
Audie for ever my hero
ruxy, thanks for commenting and for the links on Audie Murphy sites. I learned a lot about him by writing this post.
Rebecca, I need to stop in at the Gallery on First Fridays. The statue is awesome.
