September has arrived and my thoughts are as random as our weird weather. It is 92 degrees in the shade right now on my front porch and last Sunday we had showers mixed with a goodly dose of thunder. Who knew Mother Nature could be so fickle?

The year was 1996 when we last spent the night at Lake Tahoe. We returned this past month to celebrate Richard’s birthday. We felt like we had landed on an alien planet. The North Shore is now Condominium Central with wall to wall people everywhere! It was a sad, but true lesson that location, location, location speaks volumes when it comes to lake front property. I wonder what the original inhabitants of this land, the Native Americans, would think if they could see what has happened to this most treasured and revered land? The lake, itself, is still pristine in it’s majestic setting and it is a constant reminder of how insignificant we humans are. Watching the sun rise and set each day, with the mountains as a backdrop in all directions, was intoxicating to someone who has always wanted to live on the water. We were treated to a boat ride on the lake which was the ultimate thrill to a man who has owned boats all his life. What pure joy it was to fly across the turquoise waters leaving all your everyday troubles, concerns, and worries back on land. This experience is something one should never take for granted.

We celebrated three family birthdays last month and we, once again, initiated the Family Tri-Fecta Birthday Celebration. For the very first time, the new homeowner in the family was the hostess. We all contributed to the Birthday Brunch and we had a memorable celebration. Later, everyone helped with the chores of being a new homeowner and some visits to the neighborhood park for the granddaughters who were such good helpers with yard clean-up. The wheelbarrow was the best “toy” we could have given them.

Two of my granddaughters headed back to school. Number One Kiddo is now in First Grade and Number Two Kiddo is enrolled in Pre-K. How this all happened so quickly is beyond me, the elderly Nana. I am so proud of their love for learning and their desire to do well. I hope that school will continue to be a positive experience for them and their little sister when she grows into school age.

I am yawning and my garden needs some water. The sun has dropped behind the maple trees so I think I shall go outside and see what the deer have been eating in the garden. Fall is just three weeks away.
