There is to be no slowdown to the amazing recreation and events that provide the Greater Sacramento Region with entertainment possibilities.
This Labor Day weekend we had Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento, and The Sacramento Greek Festival. I attended both, and had a great time!
Next weekend, Mather Airport in Sacramento County's City of Rancho Cordova, will play host to the California Capital Airshow when it roars into town. Mather Airport is a mere 10 miles from Downtown Sacramento. Each year, the 2 day event thrills both young and old.
The Date: September 11th and 12th 2010
The Time: Gates open at 9:00AM and close at 5:00 PM
Visit the California Capital Airshow website for more information, maps, parking information and tips for enjoying the event.
Myrl,
I haven't been to an Airshow in a long time. I'll have to look around for one. Thanks for the reminder.
Rich
Sounds like a great time. My dad used to live in Sacramento. I have fond memories of being there. Wish I could visit with you and see the air show next weekend!
Tammy - This airshow is a family favorite. My daughter works at a company with a highrise building near the airport. She talks about how the planes and pilots come into town a few days before the show and practice. She says that she and her coworkers often stand at the window and watch as those planes come jetting by, right in front of their eyes. . .Totally awesome.
Richard - These airshows have numerous locations around the country. You need to Google yourself up one:-)
Suzanne - That would be neat! I had lunch with fellow Rainer, Elizabeth Weintraub, during our Gold Rush Days in Old Sacramento, last Friday. . .We had a blast!
Myrl ~ how fun... we just had the blue angels in Portsmouth... It sounds like a lot of great thing are happening in Sacramento. Hope you had a great labor day!
Myrl,
I miss the airshow here. They stopped having it a couple of years ago.

Hi Myrl, I hope you get that D-90 revved up and get some really amazing shots. Do you use a special filter for sky work when facing into the sun? Do you know how to use the video on the D-90, I haven't been successful with it as yet but it sure would be cool to have some of the airshow on video.
Joan - When Mather Airport was Mather Air Force Base, we would have the Blue Angels come here as well. They often take part in these airshows. I had a wonderful and relaxing holiday weekend, I hope you did as well.
Ann - Sacramento has 3 military base closures during the 1980s, and I was concerned we would eventually loose our airshows, but thus far we haven't.
William - Thus far I haven't tried video with the D90, but don't think it will be difficult. I have shot quite a bit of video with the Canon SX200 point and shoot, and had good result. I notice the function buttons and keys are similar on the D90. I should try that one of these days. I have a circular polarizing UV filter that ought to work on the sky shots.
Diane - They reall are fun to watch! I've also wanted to watch the Balloon Races. But thus far we don't have those here in the Sacramento area.
Hey Myrl, Air Shows are the best, such powerful crafts, especially the WW2 planes, I just love hearing them and seeing them fly! Enjoy and have fun, I would love to see pics if you go :)
Laura - I'm also fascinated with some of the WW2 planes. But the later planes take my breath my breath away when they accelerate.
I was bummed to find out that this airshow was the same weekend I am heading to Austin for a Real Estate thing... :( So I am going to head to Salinas next month!
Myrl - I'm sure you'll have a great time watching the show. We have one every year here in Cocoa Beach and another in Titusville with all the old warbirds. They're always a lot of fun to watch.
Chris - Salinas has a great Airshow as well. I attended that one a number of years ago.
John - I had a friend that loved the old warbirds. He'd travel many miles to see them. I can imagine that an airshow in your area - especially if it is near the beach would be amazing to watch.
Air shows are always a lot of fun! Here we have the MacDill Air Force Base's annual air show. It is always great!
