Regional Class Home Inspection Training: Bellingham Technical College

Registration is now open for the home inspection training course that will be offered at Bellingham Technical College the end of October. This is a regional class, designed for Washington state, in that a number of students will be coming in from King county, Snohomish county and other areas of the state. This college level training prepares students to work in the field. Students will be able to pass the state WDO test and work as structural pest inspectors. They will, also, be prepared to take, and pass, any test that might be required to join any home inspection society or organization. This is one of the most rigorous courses, in the field of home inspection, that is taught anywhere in the nation. Many of the home inspectors working in the state, men and women, are graduates of this class. Looks like a good class. To bad it's not webbased or local for me. I'm always interested in getting more familiar with other real estate related trades, especially the pest inspector.

Rondel,

I understand your point. It seems that, in your field, what you really need is an overview. This is a real heavy duty and intense hands on course for those who plan to make a living at home inspection. For the hands on part of the class, we really need students there in person to touch stucco, check out EIFS, differentiate between asbestos siding and striated cedar, identify LP siding, see termites and their damage up close. We do offer a class, 3 clock hours, for realtors but afraid we do not go as far as CA.

About the best I can do there is to just to provide the blogs I make here. The class is too hands on to try to do online.

I don't think you can adequately teach a home inspection course online.  There are too many things to know about that require actually seeing and touching the material.  This course also contains 5 supervised inspections.  How can one do that online?  I, too, am an instructor in this course. All four instructors are working home inspectors.  It is one of the best, if not the best, in the country.  Good post Steve.

I can see where we could have part of the basic information online, like a couple days worth of basic material, but so much is hands on -- to learn it properly -- that I think it unlikely the course would ever have much online content. We have had a few online students in class on occasions and the level of their training is typically much below the hands on students.
