New to the business - what is the best thing to tell prospects?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams GCW
As a new agent, I'm faced with the decision of just how to tell prospects about my "newness" to the business. Any suggestions for breaking the news?

Glenn, I don't think you should hold back any information about being new to the industry.  I'd be proud of it and enthusiastic about your new profession.  Showing prospects that you're willing to go the extra mile for them because you're just getting started can be very appealing to some.

I'd recommend uploading a photo and adding some copy to your profile here on Active Rain.  The first order of business for a new agent is discovering how to market yourself effectively.  Good luck!

Let them know that you are new and don't make up answers. Tell them you will find out and get back to them. Carry a pad to write on so you can remember who to call and the exact questions.

Be polite, excited and honest with everyone. The business will come and sometimes from the most unlikely places. My luck with friends and family has been minimal, I have had more success getting out and just meeting people. I have gotten clients from a mall, parking lot at a company that I was visiting and even just talking to someone working in their yard (I was wearing my nametag)....

I use to tell my new prospects that because I am new in the business and don't have many listings I can devote all of my time to them. I got alot of listings because of that statement.

I had the same fear, (years ago) I found a great way to avoid that annoying topic:

"How long have you been in real estate"

"It seems like years!"

=)

I couldn't wait to add real years to the answer but the time flew and now I can, proudly. Keep working hard and you'll be able to say you've been full time for 20 years...Only hard working agents survive. Best of luck.

Just be honest! People appreciate that more often than not. I like Cecilia's answer...That will work too!

Honesty is the best policy, and then you have nothing to worry about.  Most people are looking for energy, enthusiam and drive!  Good luck and have fun.
