The Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative (HAFA) is a government program designed to help homeowners who can't afford their mortgages to get out from under without incurring future liability.
You'll need a REALTOR, since HAFA "aids eligible homeowners by pre-approving short sales before listing and releasing them from future liability for the first mortgage debt."
