Goodbye Mr. Sticky Notes............

By

OK I admit it even in this web 2.0 world we live in.......I still used sticky notes to jot down client names, emails, and numbers.  You know the typical scenario: phone rings as you are racing down the aisle of the grocery store. New client that just punched through on your website or a sign call.  "Hold on just a minute and let me get something to write on." For me that involves digging out some sort of crinkled overly used envelope or scratch piece of paper from my purse. As I desperately search for an unused corner that I can recover data from later I say,   "OK let me get your name, a good email, and a good number to reach you on and I'll get right back to you on that."

Now in my hand is my Iphone which holds a plethora of resources at my finger tips and one would think I'd take a moment to punch in the info from a potential client. But noooooooo, I resort to my age related comfort zone and jot down in hieroglyphics the info given.  Now I have gotten smart enough to repeat it back to make sure it's right (nothing worse than figuring out later you have wrong info). The goal is then to transfer the info ASAP over to my data base and not let a lead fall through the cracks

Well I'm here to confess I've turned over a new leaf......hello Mr. miniature spiral notebook. Yup, game on.  Now I've got those leads in one place.  Oh and by the way, it's a great CYA resource if you jot down the gist of client's conversations with date and time, log quick notes to self, and of course blog ideas!

Our team ALWAYS has a 'palm pilot' (small spiral notebook that fits in your palm) on hand at our installations. This way if you're asked questions you can't answer right away, you have somewhere to write it down, along with how to reach the person who asked. Have a growing to-do list? You have a place to keep track! It works great and you can easily rip out pages you don't need when you're done, but in the mean time you don't have to worry about the stickiness of the note wearing off and falling out of your booklet.

Glad to see you've embraced this method for yourself as well!

I try hard to remain paperless, but sometimes the old ways are just the best.

Oh how funny! I've been using one of those since this past weekend. I bought a fat mini spiral notebook from Staples that fits in my purse and it's very convenient. I was starting to names and numbers down on my checks and that wasn't working out too well :)

Laura: sometimes the simplest solutions are right in front of us and aren't really too high tech!

Bill:  I agree and I'm trying to really get away from paper- I've even got a great tablet for contracts! But there are still those times when you look at your desk and you've got 15 notes jotted on bits and pieces of paper and the worst is when I can't find the one piece of paper with a phone number I need.

Cynthia:  So glad to see someone else has crossed over!  It's liberating:)
