I'm new at this blogging thing, but I like it.  I consider myself to be successful at real estate, and would like to continue that success.  In order to do so, I need your help.

I am disturbed by the mixed messages of the mass media about the mortgage crisis.  I'm sure you are too if you're in the real estate industry.  Crisis? Not really.  Many of you will agree that there are tons of products available for consumers, others agree that lending restrictions needed to be tightened up.  It wasn't so long ago that anyone who could fog a mirror could get a mortgage. Yes, things have changed, but the sky is not falling.  Inventory is abundant and rates are great!

I want to hear from you.  Send me your wackiest, craziest, funniest, smartest, most brilliant advice,  comments or ideas for advertising and/or marketing this great market and rates.

My company doesn't market the sale of homes...we help sellers with unique marketing, which includes lower monthly payments.  Our first marketing poster is on my "home" page here at ActiveRain.  It's a bit unorthodox, but I love the chick and egg, and we play around with concepts (like "think outside the shell") all the time.  Creativity is a great way to set yourself apart from the pack and really stand out!

:"the sky is not falling..." those were the exact words that the mortgage broker from our office put on the flier he handed out to our office about the mortgage situation.

It's hard to overcome public perception.  I just sent out a query letter pitching an article to a local magazine about this topic.  It's a little free mag, but well read by local women, so hopefully that will help in our area.  People like to hear from somebody locally rather than some talking head.  Almost every market has something similar to this mag.  that is my only suggestion.  sorry it's not more original or creative

I noticed that there are many more people showing signs of great stress from lack of sales.  Easy to get caught up in the negative energy from others.  Staying positive in every way possible is a key element of success in this market.

The media sells hype and horror.  If things are going great then they hype it up so it gets too high and if the market has a small down turn then the world is on fire and everyone needs to bail out.  It overkill!

Welcome to ActiveRain, Jen! I agree with your perspective on the media. So often they're focusing on the difficulties of selling a home and completely neglecting the buyer side of the market. For buyers looking to hold their homes for 3-5 years and longer, there are some terrific opportunities out there today!
