Agent Loyalty....and the Home Buyer

Managing Real Estate Broker with MacNificent Properties, LLC 638538 MD

I have recently had a couple encounters with Consumers, looking to buy homes, who have been in touch with other Real Estate Agents.  That, in and of itself, is not a problem.  What I think the general public does not understand is how hard we agents work.  Consumers, if you are going to buy a home, take the time to interview agents, then pick one to work with..  Your relationship with your agent is just that, a relationship, it is not a one way street.  Just as you need to trust that your agent is going to work in your best interest, an agent should have the comfort of knowing that her/his clients are loyal, and appreciate the energy and effforts....

This is a very difficult business.  So, if you have the good fortune of working with an agent, who is honest and has integrity....you've got a keeper...so be loyal..so there you have it...The World According to Konnie

Today a friend in our office told me about an exasperating experience having to do with loyalty of a client.  She met some buyers at an elite new home subdivision where she works as a buyers' agent.  She showed them homes there, e-mailed them homes and showed them a home not far away.  She had established "agency" with these clients with no mention of them working with another agent.  Today she came to work and found out they made an offer on a house she showed them with another agent she knew nothing about.  I suggested that we need to do more to educate and be interviewed by a potential client.  A buyers' agency agreement seems "tacky", but more necessary than we would like to think.

I agree that consumers looking for a home should interview an agent to develop a relationship or discover that there is a personality conflict.  Realtors are professionals and should be treated as such by buyers.  Our responsibilty as professionals is to work with integrity and diligence for the client in the process of buying or selling a home!
