How To Prepare A House For Sale-Clear The Clutter- It's pretty evident that Staged Homes Sell Faster! But let's face it, not every home owner who decides to sell has enough equity or cash on hand to pay a Professional Home Stager (who by the way, are worth every penny if you can go that route).

But, there are different degrees of staging that all homeowners MUST consider when putting there home on the market. Again, based upon your budget and time frame.

In this blog I want to talk about the very least you should do to sell your home. The good news here it that  this is  Low To No Cost Home Staging. The very least you should do is to Clear the Clutter!

Just watch one episode of "Hoarders" and you'll be itching (literally) to make this a priority. Here's what I mean by "Clearing The Clutter":

What Am I Considering Clutter?

Anything you are not currently using on a day to day basis

In the Kitchen

  • Rarely or unused appliances (can you say George Foreman Grill).
  • Outdated canned food, spices.
  • Mis-Matched Plates,cups,utensils or pots and pans

In The Bath

  • Beat Up Towels and Bath Mats
  • Crusty old toothbrushes
  • Outdated or Unused items in Medicine Cabinet
  • Ditch any mismatched or ragged Towels and Bath Clothes.

In The Bedroom

  • Shoes, clothes and anything you are not wearing any more.
  • Nick knacks
  • Excess Furniture
  • Boxes
  • Exercise equipment

In The Living Room

  • Nick Nacks
  • Over-sized Furniture
  • Newspapers and Magazines
  • Reduce Wall Art and Photos

And follow suit for the other rooms in your home!

Get the picture? Sometimes it's hard to "See The Forest For The Trees" so ask a friend who has a cleaner home than you for their "honest" opinion. Better yet, ask your Realtor who Really wants to sell your home!

If you don't use it, LOSE IT!

Tread Mill Gathering Dust? Back to the Gym is a Must!

Boxes On The Floor? Pack and send to Store!

Living in Clutter Hell? Its time for Yard Sale!

Were' all guilty of keeping Stuff around for simply because we don't know what else to do. If you have something laying around that you wouldn't give away, even to your worst enemy....THROW it Away!

Stephen - don't forget about the garage!  So many times sellers will do a fine job clearing out their home, but they move all that clutter to....the garage!  Cardinal sin!

Stephen - love your 'guys'. Great post, I'm not selling my house - but oohhh I can use these tips right now! use it or lose it - what do I do with all of the electrical cables and adapters that seem to come from nowhere? I think they have babies like bunnies. A refreshing little reminder. I use a stager too - I pay for her consulting appointment - she just is the 'advice giver' if they take her advice, they have to either DIY or hire their own workers - and I can help with that. Worth every penny!

Suggest!!

Great tips Stephen. The exercise equipment is the worst. It seems that after six months, it turns in to a glorified clothes hanger.

I'm taking your advice and our home is not listed.  Time for some serous editing. Time to do the Calfornia Closet redo in all three bedrooms for sure.
