Do you believe in Lucky Fruit? ORANGE

By
Real Estate Agent with Douglas Elliman Real Estate

Chinese love fruits, we prefer fresh fruits, big and beautiful is ideal. Fresh fruit at the New Year symbolizes life and a new beginning.

Sugared ones are a wish for a sweet year. Traditionally, oranges and mandarins or what we call the tangerine or clementine, as well as limes, bananas, pineapple, and water or winter melon are seen as good wish offerings.

Oranges and Tangerines: Tangerines and oranges are frequently displayed in homes and stores daily and especially during holidays and new years. Orange and Tangerines are symbolic of good luck, and oranges are symbolic of wealth and prosperity. These Chinese New Year symbols have developed through a language pun, the word for tangerine having the same sound as "luck" in Chinese, and the word for orange having the same sound as "wealth".

Maybe you can go buy an orange or two for when you are in the grocery store and see if that bring you luck and wealth.

I love myself a good orange or pineapple.  But some fresh strawberries have to be my favorite.

Eileen, you are always such a great source of information.  It would be interesting to find out where all these beliefs originate from.

Keeping Lucky oranges around the home is a good omen even if you are not superstitious. and whatever other things bring good fortune.

Oranges are fertility in some circles. When Ann had her bridal shower, one of her friends gave her a bag of the things.

And now we have 4 kids!!!!

Ah yes. I know this belief.... And I must say oranges do bring in some sort of luck and success... And there are certainly alot more similar to oranges too.
