I got the lead. I had qualified the buyer. They were coming to town to visit. I had won them over with my charming personality. (OK, 3 out of 4 isn't bad.) Now it was time to put them in the car and show them some homes!
These folks had been very upfront with me. They weren't positive they were going to move to this area, but they had heard so many great things about it that they wanted to check it out. Their employer wanted them here, and they were considering saying yes to the move, but they didn't have to. No problem, I thought, this is a GREAT town, and it's an easy sell. Most everyone who visits loves it here.
I knew that my main job of the day was to sell the town, but they also wanted to see some homes in the price range they were interested in, which was between $400k and $500k. Again, no problem, I was happy to pick some subdivisions to show them what great homes we have. I carefully picked both some newer and older popular subdivisions in their price range, really wanting everyplace we visited to leave a great impression.
So we meet on the appointed day, get in my car, and head out for a day of fun! I pull into the first subdivision, which has some AWESOME homes in it, excited to show them how great it would be to live here. We pull around the corner to see the first home and....
First, let me state, I like the police. I'm a big law and order kind of guy. The vast majority of police serve their communities well in an often thankless job. However...
These are NOT the people I want to see at our first showing. Yep, the police are hauling some guy out of the house next door to the one we are supposed to see, and the guy is in handcuffs. Now, I've lived in this town for 19 years now, and I've NEVER seen anyone get arrested. And I certainly wouldn't have expected it in this neighborhood. The buyers were VERY good sports. They said they didn't mind, we viewed the house anyway, at their request, and we had a good laugh.
However, you guessed it... they never moved here.
