Site preparation for the new Wailea Gateway Shopping Center has commenced on the corner of Piilani Highway and Wailea Ike Drive. Positioned uphill from the existing Wailea Shopping Center, this new complex with great ocean views will comprise 2 buildings each of 2 floors with adjacent parking. This new development is located immediately below that planned for the controversial Honua'ula development (1400 homes, a golf course and commercial space). In all there will be 4 shopping areas in less than a mile (Shops at Wailea; Wailea Town Center; Wailea Gateway Center; and the anticipated commercial section of Honua'ula).
