Sevier County Update: Flood Insurance in Sevier County

By

I met with the Sevier County Planning Commission yesterday about recent developments for Flood Insurance.  Effective August 19, 2010 Sevier County is now a pariticpant in the National Flood Insurance Progam, a federally subsidized program to assist homebuyers in the cost of insurance.  Prior to our county becoming a particiapnt, the county was not eligible for FEMA programs, and flood insurance in flood plain areas ranged from $3000 to $6000 annually and was mostly available from Lloyds of London!  Now it will be about 1/10 of that and can be written by many insurance providers.

Now I understand why the people a few miles down the road from me are building on a lot that is several feet under water when we get heavy rains. I am stunned at what they have done, even dugout a huge pond near the creek. Guess they have bought enough insurance.
