It's all about the money and lots of it! $$$$$$$$ I mean more than you would ever think some horses and lovers of horses would bring to a community. According to the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council the Winter Equestrian Festival alone brings more than $57 Million to Palm Beach County.

Stadium Jumping holds the Winter Equestrian Festival and the National Horse Show in Wellington Florida every year. These two events alone bring in over $66.5 Million dollars to Wellington Florida! That is a lot of money for one town to be getting from horse events!

Palm Beach County Equestrian residents spend over $121 million dollars per year taking care of their 11,000 horses and the non- residents spend well over $135 Million attending the events held here in Palm Beach County according to Economics Research Associates. And then indirectly the horse owners and participants contribute over $ 274 Million dollars. Just look at some of the homes they own. I will be taking many more photos of the horse events here and post them as I get them!

These horses are not the kind of horses that cost $1,000, no we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars for some blood lines. When one horse comes down here for the season with their owner, they also bring along a groom, a vet, the rider and other help. There are those that will hire locals around here to attend to many of the horse duties and care.

The Village Of Wellington understands how much money this is and how they benefit from these Equestrian events and have stated their support thereof.  That is why they are working to get Stadium Jumping's request granted to move to a larger location in Wellington to hold their growing horse shows.

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is the National Governing Body for equestrian sport as designated by the United States Olympic Committee. The USEF has established the following facility standards for the Wellington horse shows:

  • At least 10 competition rings, including a grass grand prix field of at least 4 acres, a grass derby field of at least 4 acres and an all-weather hunter ring of comparable quality to the grand prix field;
  • Not less than 9 separate schooling areas adjacent to the competition rings and 5 additional exercise rings;
  • A secure FEI area with stabling and exercise spaces;
  • A veterinarian and horse care facility;
  • A food court area, vendor sales area, feed store, maintenance equipment storage area, adequate spectator seating, public restrooms and vehicle parking areas;
  • Temporary structures designed to provide reasonably sufficient stall space, including wash stalls, for all entries until the permanent stalls are built and;
  • Site work, drainage and utility infrastructure in place and with approval of all required government agencies.
  • A large covered arena is planned for a future phase to extend the show season and provide for night classes and attracting different breeds. This multi-use building will also have the capacity to host small trade shows. There will be at least 2,200 stalls onsite with supporting facilities such as wash-stalls and grooming areas. Onsite spectator parking will also be provided.
  • Safety is of the utmost priority.
Jean Mische of Stadium Jumping said that they have outgrown their current facility. Mark Bellissimo was a partner with Jean Mische and they are no longer on good terms. Mark Bellissimo is threatening to sue the Village of Wellington if they approve Stadium Jumping's request because it means that Stadium Jumping will no longer be on Bellissimo's property. The current lease that Stadium Jumping has is over in December 2008 so a move may have been inevitable irregardless of their issues.

Beautiful photos of horse country out in Palm Beach County.  What a huge impact horses and their owners have in your area.  I guess I can see why there is a fight over who will get the event - hopefully the good of the show will win in the end.

Katerina - you are such a wealth of information both on Wellington Real Estate and the Community surrounding Palm Beach county that I can hardly keep up with all your posts - thanks for sharing - we have very limited land for horses and it's a shame - glad you all still have preserved this lifestyle.

Cyndee- Thank you so much! They are very strict here about development. The good thing about Wellington is that it a new community that started in the late 60's and was from the beginning a PUD so there was always a comprehensive plan to go with.
