This Saturday marks the ninth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Local citizens in Downtown Painesville are organizing a remembrance in the Painesville Square.
You're invited to come place a flag for each and every life taken on that infamous day. Volunteers will start placing 3,000 flags in the square in Downtown Painesville at 6:00 AM. There will be a short ceremony at 8:00 AM followed by Taps at 8:46 AM, the time the first plane struck the first tower.
We will never forget the victims of that day. We will never forget the brave firefighters, police officers and paramedics who gave their lives to save others. And we will never forget the courageous men and women in uniform who defend our country everyday.

More opinions than you want to hear about.
We will never forget the attack or the victims. We must also remember how virtually everyone in the United States came together. For a period of time, there was a common direction and almost no political posturing. We experienced a period of cooperation that, if sustained, could take us to an unimaginable level of peace and prosperity. Unfortunately, the sadness of the tragedy lingers, and the cooperative spirit evaporated rapidly.

Yes Mike, isn't it sad we didn't keep that feeling of unity. Some of the things I remember soon after were that people, strangers, said Hello to each other, and everyone hung their American flag proudly. I am glad that at least one day every year we come together to remember.
