Oregon's 26th Annual Hood to Coast kicked off last night!  As we prepare to see thousands of runners crossing our terrain in the next 12 hours or so, let us be mindful of safety.  In the meantime, though, I thought that it may be fun to let you know a few facts about the Relay Race.

The Hood to Coast Race was started in 1982 by John Foote.  When it originated, it began at Timberline and ended in Pacific City (one of the beaches along the Oregon Coast).  In 1986, that ending location changed to be the better known city of Seaside.  The course remains the same today as it did then...197 long fought miles.  :)

The teams are comprised of 12 runners per team, and the teams are now limited to 1000 teams.  Unlike the first Hood to Coast ~ which had only 8 teams ~ the newer model has helped to raise monies for the American Cancer Society!

If you would like to see the updates on this run, or you would like more information on the future of Hood to Coast, please go to their website at www.hoodtocoast.com.  You will find scores of information and ways that you can participate.  Drive safely and watch for our local enthusiasts!  If you know of someone who is participating, or if you yourself have, let me know.  I look forward to some very interesting stories!  Until then, I will be watching, reading, and writing!  :-)

Is it a coincidence the race was started by a guy named Foot?  That's almost too good to be true. Pretty cool the  ACS is benefiting.

awww...the good old days. I've never actually ran in the Hood To Coast. I was a cross country and track runner along with my brother. My brother and their group ran in all sorts of road races. I've only taken part in a few and that was a long time ago! My brother being 3 years older than me and his friends always seemed to have their team already lined up and of course little brother wasn't quite good enough to break into it when he was only a freshman in HS and they were all seniors! I do love attending track meets, cross country meets, road races...etc. Somewhere along the way I slipped out of a running schedule...haha...odd. The hood to coast is an amazing event and safety is definitely a concern!

Rondel ~  I thought the same thing when I first learned of the hood to coast history!  Rather ironic indeed!  Anyway, I love the ACS benefiting from it!  My Dad passed away due to cancer.  He was only in his mid fifties...cancer sucks!

Derrick ~  Yes, the race benefits a tremendous cause.  One which we can all get behind.  Nearly everyone knows someone affected by cancer!  Thanks for commenting!

Rick ~  Hi there!I too had slipped out of running, but I decided about two years ago thast i had better put my feet where my mouth was and stay healthy somehow!  :-)  Go get running!  Have a great day and stop by to comment and visit any ol' time!
