Oregon's 26th Annual Hood to Coast kicked off last night! As we prepare to see thousands of runners crossing our terrain in the next 12 hours or so, let us be mindful of safety. In the meantime, though, I thought that it may be fun to let you know a few facts about the Relay Race.
The Hood to Coast Race was started in 1982 by John Foote. When it originated, it began at Timberline and ended in Pacific City (one of the beaches along the Oregon Coast). In 1986, that ending location changed to be the better known city of Seaside. The course remains the same today as it did then...197 long fought miles. :)
The teams are comprised of 12 runners per team, and the teams are now limited to 1000 teams. Unlike the first Hood to Coast ~ which had only 8 teams ~ the newer model has helped to raise monies for the American Cancer Society!
If you would like to see the updates on this run, or you would like more information on the future of Hood to Coast, please go to their website at www.hoodtocoast.com. You will find scores of information and ways that you can participate. Drive safely and watch for our local enthusiasts! If you know of someone who is participating, or if you yourself have, let me know. I look forward to some very interesting stories! Until then, I will be watching, reading, and writing! :-)
Is it a coincidence the race was started by a guy named Foot? That's almost too good to be true. Pretty cool the ACS is benefiting.
